This is mainly because Pylea is a fairly primitive culture but may also be part of a deliberate plan on the part of the priests to keep the civilization primitive despite their obvious access to modern technology in the form of the collars used on the humans. Inflection is also very important, as a mis-pronounced word can greatly alter meaning.
