Here is a list of the different rating systems used by fanfic writers. Please remember it's better to be safe than sorry. If you're unsure whether your fic is PG-13 or R, please choose the higher of the two, that way only those who should read your fic will. If you live in a country other than the US, UK or Australia and would like to see your rating system here, email me. Just be sure to tell me which country you live in and include descriptions of the ratings.

US Ratings

G: General audiences. All ages admitted. No violent or sexual situations.

PG: Parental Guidance suggested. Some material may not be suitable for children. Implied violence or sexual situations possible.

PG-13: Parents strongly cautioned. Some material will be unsuitable for children under the age of 13. Some violence, sexual situations and mildly strong language. (This is the rating both BtVS and A:tS try to meet).

R: Restricted. Those under 17 require a parent or guardian to be admitted/read. Violence, sexual situations, and strong language.

NC-17: No one under the age of 17 will be admitted. Explicit violence, sexual situations, extremely strong language.

Australian Ratings

G- General exhibition. Appropriate for all ages.

PG- Parental Guidance recommended for those under the age of 15. Low level violence, sexual situations or strong language. Supernatural or horror content.

M- Mature Audiences. Medium levels of violence, sexual situations or strong language. One or more of the above categories in the same program (violence and sex or sex and strong language, etc.)

MA- For Mature Audiences. No one under the age of 15 admitted without parent or guardian. High levels of violence, sexual situations or strong language.

R- No one under the age of 18 admitted. High to very high levels of violence, sexual situations and/or strong language.

NVE- Non-Violent Erotica. Basically graphic sex.

German FSK

Without FSK - General audiences. All ages admitted. No violent or sexual situations.

FSK 6 - Parental Guidance suggested.

FSK 12 - Parental Guidance suggested. Some material may not be suitable for children. Implied violence or sexual situations possible.

FSK 16 - Restricted. Those under 16 require a parent or guardian to be admitted/read. Violence, sexual situations, and strong language.

FSK 18 - No one under the age of 18 will be admitted. Explicit violence, sexual situations, extremely strong language.

UK Ratings

U- Universal. Appropriate for all ages.

PG- Parental Guidance. (same as US)

12- Not suitable for anyone under the age of 12.

15- Not suitable for anyone under the age of 15. Violence, sexual situations, mildly strong language.

18- No one under 18 admitted. Graphic Violence, sexual situations and very strong language.
