Fred sat alone in her cave. For the hundredth time that hour she wished that she could figure out how to make a decent taco shell out of tree bark.
Maybe if I cut off the rough outside bark and let it soak in water first. And THEN dried it hanging up over the fire.
She wrote that on the wall of her cave in the back bottom corner next to her other thoughts on the recipe.
You can manage to figure out how to disable the collar, but you can't figure out how to make a taco shell? What kind of scientist are you anyway? Apparently, not a very good one.
She glanced outside and noticed that the suns had moved farther across the sky. It was time for her to get back before anyone realized she was gone. She couldn't afford getting into trouble again, even if her collar was no longer effective. They were bound to notice sooner or later, and each time they shocked her, it was harder and harder to remember how it had felt and harder to pretend it hurt still.
She easily made her way back. Sometimes she went different ways just to keep her mind sharp and stimulated, but not this time, she had to get back. When she got to the edge of the yard, she noticed a large amount of commotion near the barn. Luckily, she was able to slip in between two boards, her own secret passage in and out, without being noticed. She had learned to become quiet as a mouse when she wanted. She peeked over the fence that separated her pen from the rest of the area to see what was going on.
Oh my God, she thought. It’s another human, another girl! She couldn't figure out if she was happy or sad about it. She felt bad for the girl, wished she hadn't been captured and brought here as a slave like she herself was. But on the other hand, maybe now she wouldn't be so alone. Maybe now she could have a friend. She dared another look and peeped over the fence. Maybe she had finally found someone who could help her get out.

A gentle breeze rustled through the beast’s fur. Seeku was on the hunt. He flexed his claws, then leapt halfway up the nearest tree. The light from the double suns barely penetrated through the dense foliage this deep in the woods. But, Seeku’s eyesight was even better in the dark. A small rodent stuck its head out of a hole to see what had latched onto the tree. It squealed as fingers reached in, dragging it still screaming into a mouth full of sharp teeth. Bones crunched, blood dripping down Seeku’s throat. He smiled.
His ears twitched at a sudden sound. Something was out there. Something big. If he caught anything that large, his master, Trensiduf of the Gathwok Clan would be very pleased.
Seeku dropped silently. Wouldn't take too long to reach whatever it was making all that noise. Maybe fifteen minutes at the most. Sticks snapped, something screamed. This prey was begging to be caught. He licked the remaining blood from his lips and teeth, then took off towards the sounds.
He was getting close. His nostrils flared as he inhaled deeply. The prey was afraid. Good. It didn't smell like anything he'd caught before. Close, but not exact. A cow. His master would be thrilled, maybe even pleased enough to give him a special treat. Seeku’s body twitched with excitement.
So close now. Had to do this right so the prey didn't get away. He slunk behind bushes, then peered from behind a tree. There it was. Perfect, he could take something like that with no problem. Cows always panicked and did something stupid. Made them easier to catch. He leapt up to a hanging tree branch and snarled. The prey did as he expected, it turned and ran. Seeku took off after the cow at a leisurely pace. He easily caught up, bringing it to the ground. He licked her face with his pointed tongue, then jumped up at the sound of his master’s voice. His master was happy.
